The Real Game

The Real Game partnership in New Zealand

The Real Game partnership in New Zealand is led by Career Services. In 2000, the Canadian edition of The Real Game was successfully piloted in schools, and an evaluation of the pilot completed by the Ministry of Education. A National Advisory Group was then set up to advise on the adaptation of the Australian edition of The Real Game (ages 12-14). A prototype of the New Zealand edition was completed in August 2002 and the final version completed in November 2002.

In 2003, a government-funded copy of The Real Game was provided for all state secondary schools. They have also received training funded by the government in how to use The Real Game, with Career Services CareerCentre staff running training sessions around the country. Copies of The Real Game were distributed to participants during the training sessions.

Additional copies of The Real Game and the student folders can also be purchased. The Real Game is $270.00 and student folders are $2.25 (minimum order 10 copies). Prices include GST.

The Game

The New Zealand edition of The Real Game is designed for 12-14 year old students and aims to help students make the connection between school and their future working life. Students role-play allocated occupations, learn to budget within confined incomes, pay tax, plan holidays, balance work and leisure times, discover transferable skills, understand their role in the community and much more as they prepare for their future lives.
